Santa Barbara is one of California’s nicest and scenic coastal towns. Located just an hour and a half north of Los Angeles, it might as well be a world’s apart. Santa Barbara is surrounded by lush trees and rolling hills. Its got a lazy beach town feel and there’s something for everyone here. If you’re visiting for an afternoon, the historic downtown area is a great place to dine and find activities for adults and kids. Right by the pier you can rent bicyles, roller blades and beach cruisers. Santa Barbara also has a historic mission that was built in 1769. It is California’s oldest standing mission and tourists come from all over the state to see it. Santa Barbara is home to retirees, college students and businesses. The University of California is located just minutes from downtown.

If you’ve got a big appetite, stop in to Freebirds in Isla Vista. Home to one of the largest burritos known to mankind. It might take two people to get this mean burrito demolished but it’s well worth it. Only three people have ever finished an entire burrito on their own.

Santa Barbara is also home to one of the largest tuna farms. Tuna travel from up north in large numbers and are attracted to the warm waters off the coast. Fishermen from around the area thrive on the migration when it’s in season.

Oil is also big in Santa Barbara. A dozen oil rigs can be spotted off the coast of Ojai which is just south of downtown. Santa Barbara is also home to celebrities. Oprah Winfrey has a house in Carpinteria which is just a five minute drive from downtown. The late pop star Michael Jackson also had a large ranch style property nearby. Santa Barbara is a great stop if you’re looking for a quick escape from the city life.
