The Gelibolu Peninsula National Park, also known as Gallipoli, was found in 1973. It is in the province of Canakkale, on the southern part of the Gallipoli Strait. The area totals to 81,544 acres! It is massive and is on the United Nations list of protected parks. The park can be reached from both the Tekirdag and Gelibolu highways from Istanbul. There is a small airport in the area as well. The park is popular for the war memorials and cemeteries for the Turkish soldiers as well as foreigners that were killed during the shore battles in 1915. You will find items such as castles, towers, sunken ships, and many other remains from war. There are almost 300,000 graves in memorials from Turkish soldiers and another 300,000 from Australia, New Zealand, France and England. Thousands of people flock to visit the site every year.
The whole park has been registered as an official historical site area. IT has massive cultural importance to the country. Within the park you will find sites and monuments that dates back to 4000 BC. Between these sites you will find bay, beaches and an interesting array of plant life, lakes, and geological constructions.
