California is known for a lot of things. One in particular is the great wines that are produced there. All throughout northern California and especially the Napa Valley, thousands of acres of extremely fertile soil exists making some of the best grapes in the world. There are hundreds of producers in Napa alone. The wine they produce here is sold and distributed all around the world. Wine lovers from around the world, especially those who can really taste and better yet afford the best of the best, come to parts of Northern California each year to sample new product. There are hundreds of wine tasting places in Napa and north of San Luis Obispo. As far down south as Ventura County you will find some high quality wine.
The most widely consumed wine in California is the merlot. It is a red wine but not too dry, making it very easy to consume. The cabarnet is okay but most find it dry so it definitely has to be consumed with certain foods to give it a good balance. If you are traveling through the state or just looking for a weekend get away, there are plenty of places to spend the night. Many large retailers also setup here. California is home to nearly 40% of the world’s wine production.
Northern California happens to also be a go to place for retirees and baby boomers. Most retire and go up there for good and setup their own little wine making operation. Most do it for fun but others find that they are pretty good at it and turn it into a profitable business. Because it falls into that category in which the average consumer has no clue, wine makers can get away with charging a significant amount over what it costs to produce a bottle so it’s key to get the labeling right to catch one’s eye.
