Camping in Cachuma Lake is a quick and easy get away for a weekend. Tourists from all over the state as well as residents of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties travel to this beautiful national park every year to take advantage of all the activities. If you enjoy camping, this park is close but yet far from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Rates are very reasonable and there is usually plenty of availability so reserving ahead of time is not always necessary. Each site comes with its own fire pit. Each camp site is slightly different in price depending on the view to the lake.
The lake is an entirely different story. About a decade ago before the worst drought California has seen in decades, the water level at Cachuma Lake was healthy. Today, it is at levels the park has never seen since they started keeping records. Nonetheless there is still plenty of water to rent a boat and take it out on the water for the afternoon. If you are traveling up or down the state, it is a great rest stop for the afternoon. If you aren’t prepared to pitch a tent, you can even rent a yurt. A yurt is a small cabin enough for 2 people. The yurts are right by the water. Bear sightings are few and far between but still precautions must be taken. Food must always be stored in the car when going to bed. Raccoons are probably more common than bears and they are certainly known to grab and dash with your food.
Cachuma Lake is close to Chumash Casino, an Indian gaming casino just up the road. Travel to Solvang on your way up there. Solvang is a Dutch inspired town designed to look and feel like a European city. There are plenty of rooms to rent to spend the night for very reasonable rates.
