After failed attempts, mainly due to community protests and oppositions, the Arts District may be the home to a new 472-unit apartment complex.
The development will be done by Legendary Development, who had bought the property out of bankruptcy three years ago. The seven structures to rise around a 922-space parking facility is already entitled and all that is needed for approval is a site plan change.
Previous projects were canceled after protests from the neighborhood, which included a proposed public mental health court and school meal production facility.
Legendary states that the look of the apartment building will be blending in with the industrial aesthetic of the neighborhood.
